Recent events: Training of Trainers workshops in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan (May 2012)

Through the USAID-funded Strategic Health Partnership Initiative, AIHA conducted two Training of Trainers workshops on the postgraduate course, "Issues of Specialized Medical Care for Patients with HIV-infection and Sexually Transmitted Diseases" in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on May 16-23. Three of the experts from Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry and Bashkir State Medical University who helped develop the course visited both of these countries, where the course is currently being adapted and translated to the national languages.

Fifteen healthcare educators from each country took part in these two-day workshops. Both workshops featured presentations by Russian faculty on the topics covered by the course, the methodology and selected modules. Tajik specialists, who have already finalized the adaptation, presented the adapted chapters for discussion. The Kyrgyz colleagues and the authors discussed the current epidemiological situation in the country and possible strategies for creating continuous training for educators of higher education. AIHA staff described the medinars and other distance education tools available through the AIHA website.

During the roundtable workshop, the participants and Russian faculty agreed that there is a need for further scientific exchange, and that cooperation should be continued through distance education as well as through face-to-face meetings and workshops.
